Dear Mary,

I hope you're enjoying the holidays! This chalk is 'Invisibility Chalk'. If you apply some of it to any part of your body, it'll make you invisible for 1 hour. You can use it to hide if you ever end up in a dangerous situation - ideally, that'll never happen, but it's better to be prepared, isn't it?

[Alas, he doesn't realise that applying the chalk will leave a silhouette of Mary in a random position on the ground, and if anyone touches it, she'll be stuck in the position the silhouette took for 1 hour. Hopefully they won't end up learning of that the hard way...]

[ Joy's recently discovered that she can message literally ANYONE in this world, and she's beyond delighted by the discovery. She wants to talk to everyone! She wants to make them happy! This can only go well.

Today's personal quest is brightening as many people's days as possible, and Mary is one of her chosen victims. She may be a spirit of joy, but she's still a newbie when it comes to actually trying to bring joy to others. Her heart is in the right place, though, which is what she thinks matters most. ]

I have discovered so many tiny drawings on this phone! I like them very much and wanted to share them with one of the other people here. Congratulations, you are the one who has been chosen!

Rinku hello! 💛 Yes I was. Frieda's going to move out of the place down the hall from me soon and I don't want to be on my own so I wanted to move somewhere else with Mimi and my Blue Dolls but I don't know where to look.

Are you looking too? Have you found anything? Do you want to look together?

[...It only just started to sink in as she sent the message that maybe Rinku was lonely too, and maybe they could stick together.]

Really? Yeah! It sounds like fun! I really like where I live now, but it's a three-bedroom and it's kinda expensive so I go questing and take work shifts a lot... But it'd be fun to see what all else is out there!

[She pauses, and then her eyes light up.]

And if you guys are lonely, you can stay in my spare room until we find someplace better! It used to be Rika-chan's room, so there's a bed and a desk and some notes from when she went to potion school.

You work too hard. I've done a few quests and go to school but I'm glad I don't have to have a job.

[Thank you, leadership of Ellipsa, for giving the small child enough of an allowance that she could live independently.

But far more importantly, her own expression lit up at the offer! Yes...she would get lonely, if she was left to her own devices, and being able to stay with her friend would be much better!]

[Wait, moving her things- in her excitement she hadn't thought about that, and that made her nervous. She really, really wanted to rush right in right away, so she wouldn't have to live on her own anymore.

Come to think of it, perhaps she'd let her guard down a little since she'd arrived. The her who first arrived in Ellipsa would have been more cautious, wouldn't she?

There was a pause, then, before she answered; ]

[Scary? Why would Mary be scary? She's cute! Clearly she needs help with self-esteem.]

Okay! I bet we can help! Or just me since my Pokémon aren't very big and can't lift stuff. Oh, maybe we could get luggage carts like they have at the furniture store or something to move your stuff!

[She did have a fair few art supplies, as well as the larger painting- perhaps a luggage cart would be sensible! With the two of them they might struggle.]

Can we take one to use? If we bring it back when we finish.

[In the meantime, she grabbed the duvet off her bed, slowly easing out the painting from its hiding place so she could wrap it up safely. The duvet would do nicely for that, wouldn't it?]

Probably! That's what I did when I moved! They have stuff like that in apartment buildings. I can come over, what all do you need me to bring?

[Nope she had no idea about this, at all, and was going to undoubtedly spend more time pacing in circles in her room than actually getting any packing done.

...Would this be alright? Rinku was kind. She was her friend.

But she couldn't find out, Mary told herself, going back to protectively wrapping up the canvas in bedsheets. Whatever happened.

It was only after setting that thought in her head that she remembered her manners; ]

[Rinku arrives at the starter apartments with a bunch of large boxes in assorted lengths and widths taken from the recycling, as well as a stack of blankets, all on a flat cart from the nearest home improvement centre. (She'll give it back later.) She waves up at the windows and calls Mary.]

Mary-chan! I'm here!

Cuties <3 They're doing their best!

[Hopefully the home improvement centre won't mind these two borrowing their cart for now!

When Mary had first arrived, she had been so frightened of anyone getting near her belongings, that she'd barricaded her apartment door- fetching duct tape and other supplies as a first priority. Yes, she had definitely let her guard down.

Perhaps it helped that people had accepted her here. That they were kind. And she wanted to believe Rinku would do the same.

She still jumped when she heard Rinku's voice, though! But it didn't take long to get her composure back, and she ran over to the window, standing up on her chair to peek out and answer- giving her room number as she did so.]

Rinku! Come in, come in, I've just got a few more things to pack-

[Her place is in chaos. Art supplies everywhere, clothes very roughly folded in a heap, and one rather large canvas carefully wrapped up by her blankets that she moved to lurk protectively near. That seemed about the only thing she had packed with any care.

Mimi, her droopy-earred Mimikyu, was sticking close to Mary, whilst three creepy-cute blue dolls- one big, two small- lurked nearby. Sure was odd, how it looked as if they were watching Rinku when she came in.]

[Rinku leaves the cart outside and comes up with all the boxes and blankets. She sets them down on the floor and waves happily at Mary and Mimi, then at her dolls. Mary says the dolls are alive, why shouldn't Rinku greet them?]

I can help pack this stuff! I'd let Mecchan and Hina-chan come help, but they're little, so I dunno if they can fold or lift anything. What all do you want where?

[She starts sorting the clothes into one of the boxes.]

I was hoping you'd want to.

[ He's calm, but happy to hear she wants to. ]

The Botanical Garden in Blossomcrown is always amazing. If that's far for you, though, let me know. There's a lot of amazing places in every city.

Yes, I like it there! There's so many pretty flowers aren't there? What kind of flowers do you like best? We could paint some of those first. Then maybe some roses, I like those.

[She's already getting a little overexcited-]

I like all sorts of flowers. At home, we have a flower called a Cecilia that I like a lot. It's similar to the white lilies here. I've heard that they can mean rebirth, too. But I am certain there's some roses there. I like the white and yellow ones.

[ Just because he likes the colors. ]

We'll make sure we go really soon, then.

[I know I was gonna put them into the birthday thread, but I figured why not do it here instead!

Rinku's given Mary a big, shiny seashell, along with a fold-up easel Mary can use to paint or display on the go.

She's also labelled two more gifts from Mecchan and Hina. Mecchan picked out a new hair ribbon that's glittery and green. Hina picked out some sensory sand to play with... by which I mean she flew into the display model and rolled around in it, so Rinku figured she thought it would be a good gift.]

[Rinku is getting a tackle-hug, I hope she knows this! She'll give the seashell pride of place to display in her room, and her own proper fold-up easel is very exciting! She's never had anything like that before.

She loves Mecchan and Hina's gifts too. Tackle-hugging them seems inadvisable, but she's definitely giving them pets. A cute hair-ribbon to go with her dress- and whilst Mary's never tried out sensory sand before, she'll definitely enjoy playing with it~]
